Servant of God Elisa Miceli was born in Longobardi, Italy, a very pleasant agricultural city in the region of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, on April 12, 1904. In 1917, together with her family, who had taken very good care of her human and religious, she moved to Rome, where she can get in touch with eminent personalities from the Catholic-social world. During the process of maturing the decision to consecrate his life to God as Carmelite, he returned to Calabria where he became aware of the serious conditions of exploitation and material, social and spiritual degradation in which the rural populations lived. She felt deeply called to proclaim the Gospel to people who are far from God, and Carmelite remained contemplative in her heart. In fact, Mother Elisa had sensed that the Kingdom of God is present among men through a careful work of human and Christian promotion.
A strong point of Elisa's spirituality is her devotion to the Sacred Heart, present in the Eucharistic Jesus. The natural fruit of this devotion is the nocturnal Holy Hour together with the apostolate, a responsibility that leads Mother to live the offering of herself for the atonement for sins. Jesus' agony at Getsemani is the image that will accompany him to his deathbed. From this call to the apostolate, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of 1934, the Congregation of the Rural Catechist Sisters of the Sacred Heart would be born, through which it shares the gift of God to other souls and makes the life of union with God more effective and solid. the catechetical apostolate.
Since the 1920s, Mother Elisa had created the Rural Oratories, places of welcome and integral formation of man, citizen and Christian. They gave rise to the brilliant idea of ​​Country Weeks, practiced later in various regions of Italy.
In her action she opened her heart and extended her hands to all kinds of needs; gave refuge to single mothers, at the time expelled from home and disowned by families, instituted nursery schools and courses for young women, welcomed orphaned children or victims of tuberculosis and moral and material misery, made the poor aware of their own rights and supported them in your exercise.
The laborious earthly life of the Servant of God was truncated by an incurable evil, which she welcomed with a spirit of Christian atonement and an active conformity to God's will, in perfect and joyful coherence with the fundamental choice of her experience of faith. On April 19, 1976, at the congregation's home in Frascati, the Servant of God expired piously, amid the pain of all who were unanimously certain of her holiness of life. With the spread of Mother Elisa's fame of holiness on April 19, 2002, the process of beatification began, to show the heroic character of her human and Christian virtues. ||
The remains of the Servant of God, after the canonical recognition carried out on March 2, 2003, rest in the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, also known as São Francisco de Paula, in Longobardi.
